Building Strong Chapters: The Michigan Gamma Renovation

Fraternity housing is one of the cornerstones for nurturing a strong brotherhood. From the first time seeing it during recruitment, to the last time walking out of its doors as a student, a chapter house plays an integral role for members fortunate enough to have one to call their own. Even though chapter culture is determined by the membership, these buildings are as much of the group’s identity as the brothers are. Look back on how many stories start with, “We were at the house and (fill in the blank).”

SAE Financial & Housing Corporation (F&H) understands the importance of chapter houses and focuses its business on building strong chapters through great housing. It wants to provide every brother with the opportunity to enhance brotherhood by giving it a place to do so. F&H evaluates the housing needs for chapters across the Realm and carefully selects projects to undertake depending on the scope of work. Some chapter houses need minor repairs, some need major restoration and some actually need a house. F&H aims to address all such needs.

The latest completed project, Michigan Gamma (Michigan State University), started with a need for structural repairs. It ended with an entire house renovation, costing upwards of $3.5 million to double the size of the property. This was by far the most ambitious project F&H has taken, and the results show. Does F&H have your attention now? Inquiries for housing needs can be sent to Greg Somers, Chief Executive Officer for SAE Financial & Housing Corporation, at
