Slated for Purdue Weekend, November 1, 2025

Partners with Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund & Rogel Cancer Center #Mud4Mott #LittleVictors #FerdaKids #Mudbowl
ANN ARBOR, MI, August 16, 2025 – Approaching nearly a century of tradition, the 91st Annual Michigan Mudbowl will take place Saturday, November 1, 2025, during Purdue weekend in the historic glacial “kettle hole” at 1408 Washtenaw Avenue.
Dubbed “The Dirtiest Tradition in College Football” by Bleacher Report, this cherished Ann Arbor tradition has evolved from a simple fraternity rivalry into the nation’s longest-running student-led philanthropic event. Over the past nine years alone, the Michigan Mudbowl has generated more than $400,000 for Michigan Medicine’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, with organizers aiming to surpass the $100,000 milestone for a single year in 2025.
Legends and Tradition Unite
Michigan football legend Charles Woodson continues his partnership with the event, seeing natural synergy between competition and compassion. “I’ve loved the tradition since I was a student in the 1990s, have always wanted to play in the Mud,” Woodson said this summer. “It’s a really great thing these guys do to help my fund at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital—the money donated truly has a direct impact on so many families.”
The Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund supports groundbreaking pediatric research, providing critical resources for investigators working on promising advances in pediatric cancer, heart disease, diabetes, autism, and other childhood diseases.
Expanded Partnership for Greater Impact
New for 2025, the Michigan Mudbowl has expanded its charitable mission to include support for the Rogel Cancer Center at Michigan Medicine. In a meaningful connection to the event’s history, benefactor Rich Rogel is himself an alumnus of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and former Mudbowl participant from the 1960s.
The Rogel Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, representing the highest level of cancer research and care. The center’s pediatric oncology program works to develop innovative treatments and provide compassionate care for children and families facing cancer diagnoses.
Special Entertainment Addition
This year’s event will feature DJ Myint, a rising star in Michigan sports entertainment who has been newly added to the Michigan Mudbowl Club’s board of advisors. DJ Myint is known for her dynamic performances and ability to read a crowd, having performed at prestigious venues including Ultra Music Festival in Miami and Burning Man. She’s currently serving as the official DJ for University of Michigan Athletics, the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, Tigers, and Pistons. Notably, she performed in the Big House before and during a U-M football game for over 100,000 fans and is actively dedicated to supporting charitable causes, including Mott Children’s Hospital and The Charles Woodson Foundation for Clinical Research.
How the Tradition Works
The path to the Mudbowl follows a time-tested format that combines fundraising with competition:
- Pre-Tournament Fundraising Challenge: Student teams must raise a minimum of $1,000 for the Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund. Fundraising totals determine seeding for the play-in tournament.
- Play-In Tournament: Sunday, October 26, 2025 – Teams compete for the honor of facing Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the traditional stewards of the Mudbowl, in the championship game.
- Championship Game: Saturday, November 1, 2025 (kickoff time TBD, typically between 9:30 AM and noon) – The tournament winner faces SAE in front of thousands of spectators in the historic mud pit.
Made for Media

This family-friendly event showcases the best of student-led philanthropy while providing thrilling entertainment for all ages. About the Michigan Mudbowl
What began in the 1930s when SAE member Karl “Bunny” Giller challenged Phi Delta Theta to a game of football for a keg of beer to blow off steam after midterms has evolved into Michigan’s most cherished charitable tradition. The Michigan Mudbowl Club (501c3) was established in 2015 to ensure the tradition’s continuation, bringing together the University of Michigan community in support of sick children while honoring nearly nine decades of spirited competition in the mud.
