Over 300 Brothers Unite for Hazing Prevention Week Webinar

Sigma Alpha Epsilon proudly hosted a powerful Hazing Prevention webinar on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, drawing more than 300 members from across the country who are excited to learn more about stopping and preventing hazing. Members included undergraduate brothers, chapter officers, key chapter volunteers, and Fraternity Service Center Staff.

The session centered on the newly passed Stop Campus Hazing Act and its implications for fraternities, student organizations, and higher education communities.

SAE prioritizes hazing prevention and being the leader

The event featured Todd Shelton, executive director of the Hazing Prevention Network and a leading voice in the Anti-Hazing Coalition. Shelton provided a comprehensive overview of the Stop Campus Hazing Act, breaking down its key provisions and offering practical strategies for compliance and prevention. Todd engaged with brothers to discuss how they feel about hazing, and dove deeper into the principles surrounding why hazing happens and what it looks like.

Todd Shelton on the impact of SAE and its members’ dedication in learning and preventing hazing, “I am grateful for the opportunity to speak to such a large group of undergraduate and alumni members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. It was clear through their questions and engagement that there is a serious interest in preventing hazing within the organization.”

Participants also heard from Dr. Steadman Boston, SAE’s Senior Director of Risk Management, who emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and brotherhood within our chapters.

“With the recent signing into law of the Stop Campus Hazing Act, fraternity and sorority chapters must understand clearly how incidents, and even perceived incidents, can damage their respective reputations and long-term brand equity. Way beyond chapter levels, university professionals, alumni advisors, and national headquarters must consider serious thought about their own incidents-of-prevention and incidents-of-response practices to make them not only compliant with law but also commensurate with their own organizational culture.

Colleges and fraternities need to embrace an overarching, proactive method for stopping hazing. Effective reform is more than responding to misconduct after it occurs. Reform requires multi-dimensional efforts blending education, leadership development, and alumni engagement. Education interventions help members recognize and reject pathological group processes before they escalate. Leadership development helps students lead by example and build healthy chapter environments. Alumni activism provides ongoing coaching and solidifies responsibility through time.

A solution that will take hold must involve cooperation from chapters, alumni, universities, and national organizations getting together to create a situation in which true brotherhood and sisterhood occur alongside personal growth and safety.” – Dr. Steadman Boston

The interactive program concluded with a live Q&A, where members engaged directly with presenters, gaining actionable steps they can take back to their chapters and campuses.

This turnout demonstrates the commitment of our members to making Greek Life safer and stronger. Together, we are working not only to comply with federal legislation but to model what true brotherhood means: respect, accountability, and care for one another.

As Sigma Alpha Epsilon continues to prioritize education and prevention, we are proud of the steps our members are taking to eliminate hazing and build a legacy of integrity and a safer brotherhood.
