IDAHO ALUM HONORED WITH 161ST DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

Recognizing a lifetime of service and loyalty to the Fraternity, the Distinguished Service Award is the highest individual award a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon may receive. Their actions exhibit their understanding of the Fraternity’s teachings, adherence to Fraternity Laws, attention to promoting its welfare, and exemplary conduct that guards its honor and high standing.

The Fraternity has 355,000+ initiated members; only 161 have been recognized with the Distinguished Service Award. Daniel L. Alsaker (Idaho ‘72) was awarded in Moscow, Idaho, on March 9, 2024.

His leadership traits surfaced early, leading his collegiate chapter through various roles, including Eminent Archon, during which he led the chapter to be awarded the John O. Moseley Award for Fraternity Zeal at the 1970 Leadership School. With Minerva always close to his heart, he didn’t stray far following graduation. He participated in various chapter advisory boards, attended Fraternity Conventions, and served as a Province Phi Archon for two terms. Furthermore, his dedication to SAE has continued with his involvement in his chapter’s house corporation, serving Zeta Chi Alpha in nearly every role and becoming its President for the last several years.

The leadership he exemplifies extends beyond our beloved Fraternity. His resume alone is a testament to his character as a leader. He is the President of the Broadway Group, a company with over 500 employees across four states. He has also served on boards for various schools, trade associations, foundations, museums, and theaters. Beyond that, he has also been part of several selection, fundraising, and election committees. He also lent his professional expertise to his alma mater, serving on the advisory board for its college of business, on the UI Foundation, and co-founder of the Idaho Greek Alumni Council. Recently, he also started serving on the Board of Trustees for the SAE Foundation and is the chair of its Nominating Committee.

Most impressively, he’s had an unwavering commitment to re-establishing the chapter at the University of Idaho. Starting in 2012 as Chairman of the Idaho Alpha Alumni Commission, he was tenacious in helping rebuild the group on a firmer footing and aligning the collegiates, alumni, university, and Fraternity Service Center with our values as True Gentlemen. His steadfast loyalty has ultimately paid off with the rechartering of Idaho Alpha on the 169th Founder’s Day of our Fraternity. The Fraternity has previously recognized him for his lifelong leadership and dedication with the Order of Minerva and the Merit Key Award.

Congratulations to Daniel L. Alsaker, the 161st recipient of Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s Distinguished Service Award.
