The undergraduate chapter at Mississippi State University is hosting “Stand to Stop Hazing: A Message from Rae Ann Gruver and Evelyn Piazza” on January 23. Co-sponsored with Alpha Delta Pi, the featured speakers will share stories about their sons, both of whom were lost in 2017 to hazing-related deaths.
“Spreading awareness of hazing on our campus protects the lives of Greek members, and further preserves the values and beliefs of sisterhood, brotherhood, honor, integrity and wisdom that our organizations were originally founded upon,” said Mary Grace Payne, Recruitment & Marketing Vice-President for the Alpha Delta Pi chapter at Mississippi State.
Both organizations are working in partnership with campus administrators to provide continued educational programming for the campus and surrounding communities. This month’s focus is on the dangers of hazing, both physically and mentally.
“We work daily to improve the ways we bring new members into our organizations to ensure they are successful students at MSU,” said John Michael VanHorn, Mississippi State’s Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
The event is open to the public and benefits the Max Gruver Foundation and the Timothy J. Piazza Memorial Foundation. For more event information, contact Mary Grace Payne at epsiloneta.rvp@gmail.com.
