In early June, recent Oklahoma Mu alum Ashton Slaughter represented Oklahoma State University at the Hearst National Journalism Championships in San Francisco, California. He placed second overall, earning $7,500. While he was a finalist last year, this year he placed.
While at Oklahoma State, Slaughter was very successful, first becoming the Assistant Sports Editor for the school newspaper, The O’Colly, and then, in the spring of 2025, becoming the Editor-in-Chief.
This capped off an amazing college career for Slaughter, where he will be missed around campus.
