On Friday, March 21, the Ferris State (Michigan Zeta) brothers dedicated their time to volunteering at Baldwin Elementary in celebration of National Reading Month. This initiative was made possible thanks to the leadership of Grant Kiddler (Eminent Treasurer), who helped organize the effort through Chartwells K-12, with the support of his mother, Kristi, the District Manager for Northern Michigan.
This marks the second year the chapter has participated in this community service project, and this time, they expanded their efforts. Instead of just reading to the students, they spent four hours engaging with them through recess and outdoor activities, creating an even more memorable experience.
A total of 22 members took part in the day’s events, starting with classroom read-aloud sessions before gathering in the gym for basketball. As recess began, brothers split up to engage with students — some pushing kids on the swings and playing outside, while others stayed in to continue playing basketball and tossing the football.
Looking ahead, the chapter plans to return to Baldwin Elementary in May for their field day and hopes to continue the March reading tradition for years to come.
“Reading to those kids really reminded my brothers and me how fortunate we are to have this pedestal to do good. It’s so important to give back to communities that need it when you have the resources to do so,” Camden Wysocki (Eminent Chronicler) said.
