The family’s passion for Michigan State University and all it embodies is deep and unwavering; the school’s land-grant roots, agricultural focus, diverse fields of study and competitive sports in the Big Ten and nationally are all things that make the Mundy family proud to support MSU.
Chris shared, “The fact my parents met in East Lansing and at MSU begins our rich history and love for the green and white. My mother being from Saginaw and my father from Detroit (Livonia), gives us a pride for Michigan State. With my father being a varsity athlete swimmer at MSU brings sports and athletics into the fold. Some of my youngest memories as a child were trips to East Lansing from Northern Michigan, walking Grand River, visits to SBS for a souvenir and trips to Spartan Stadium and Jenison Field House.”
Chris joined the Fraternity Service Center staff in the fall of 1996 as the Coordinator of Publications, under Pete Stevenson. His tenure would last nine years, including roles as Director of Communications, Editor of The Record and Vice-President. Chris is a Founder Member with the SAE Foundation, contributes to the SAE annual fund and has also donated directly to his Michigan Gamma chapter.
“I was raised by a family with strong values and convictions about giving back, helping others, sharing your resources, being generous, empathetic, and compassionate. I am thankful to this day for having those values instilled at a young age and being given a strong moral compass. I also believe in leading by example and leaving a legacy, there is no better way to honor my parents than with this scholarship.”
Carolyn Garner of Traverse City was the first recipient of the scholarship. She is on the rowing team at MSU. “I am grateful for these opportunities this award will provide me and I hope to continue to represent MSU and the athletics department with such passion. I look forward to paying it back upon my graduation.”
