Five decades after the founding of the Kansas City Alumni Association, members decided to recognize annually one member for outstanding contributions to the Fraternity, to the community, or perhaps a combination of both. That began in 1949 and continues today. The award is unique in SAE and can be found only here.
This year’s honoree is a Kansas City native, from the Kansas side of the state line. His family was very involved in the community, and he decided to go away to college. He went to Creighton University in Omaha for his undergraduate experience, and returned to his home state for his law degree.
His Chapter is Nebraska Iota, where he served as Eminent Archon. His peers there know well that while in that office, he rescued the Chapter from pending closure.

Back in Kansas City, he joined the law firm of his father, and a generation later, the law firm of his son. You can find his name on the list of the Best Lawyers in Kansas City and the Best Lawyers in America.
Our Honoree made judicial history in front of the Kansas Supreme Court twice.
In the community, he has served on the board of his high school, his parish, and with three sons, he has served on Scouting’s Heart of America Executive Council.
In the Fraternity, in addition to his undergraduate leadership, he has served as our Association’s President. He has attended SAE national conventions; it is important to know that at one of them, he took to the microphone, spoke against a by-law change for only thirty seconds, got a standing ovation, and buried that legislation. Amazing, just amazing.
The Association presents its highest award, Honor Man, for 2025 to John Jurcyk (Creighton ’81). Presented April 12, 2025
