MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – UW-Madison’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon is partnering with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), formerly known as Be The Match, to help fight blood cancer.

The group will host the Badgers Cure Cancer Recruitment Event with hopes to help 12,000 patients find a stem cell match.

Between Monday and Wednesday, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., students are encouraged to stop by Library Mall for a cheek swab to help patients who are battling life-threatening blood cancers.

“It’s like giving blood except they take your bone marrow stem cells and give you back your blood and that goes to save someone’s life,” said Amelia Fernandes with the NMDP, formerly known as Be The Match.

The group’s goal is to register 800 people by Wednesday, which is the end of recruitment.
